This project was a condo refresh – a few small changes in the living room, dining room and the library. The library was a front room, rarely used by the clients other than for minor storage. The room with that most needed work – we chose to make over the space a cozy library.
The first step with creating the space was to create a full wall of custom built in cabinetry. We chose a deep, rich blue color as well as adding intricate molding details. We repeated this theme with the ceiling crown molding and the wainscot paneling in the same deep blue color around the room. The walls were finished with a warm grasscloth wallpaper. We also added a custom, cozy bench seat for the window complete with custom pillows and window treatments.
For the seating area, we chose a loveseat in a white/cream color to sit along the entrance wall. A small armchair with a button tufted back and nailhead detail was added next to the bench seat to face the loveseat. We also added two hammered metal side tables in a nickel finish to both the sofa and the armchair.
The space is brought together with a cream/silver area rug and a solid planked top cocktail table with overlays of herringbone. Also tying the space together are the accessories of the space, complete with the clients favorite books, sculptures and greenery.
We were happy this room went from being barely used to a highly functional and highly visited library for the clients and their guests.
