The owners of this charming home located on the bay, with the ocean nearby, wanted to share their home’s amazing location by creating a summer hub that family and friends would come to visit and enjoy. While the home’s location was perfect for a summer gathering place, the home’s layout did not lend itself to housing or entertaining guests.

We were more than happy to help the homeowners redesign, and reconfigure their existing home into the family gathering spot they envisioned.

The main floor layout presented the largest challenge. The existing space was divided by a large staircase running from the entry to the second floor, creating an awkward unusable space behind the stairs. The first order of business was to reconfigure the main staircase to open up the main floor space. With the new staircase design we were able to create a welcoming and functional entryway, complete with cozy bench seating perfect for reading.

The homeowner’s parents planned to stay in the first floor guest bedroom, so the space needed to be comfortable and functional for extended stays. We reconfigured the entryway to the guest bedroom making the first floor powder room more accessible from the guest room, providing for a more comfortable experience for long-term guests.

The existing family room was transformed into a comfortable gathering and entertainment hub with an abundance of comfortable seating options in the form of two sofas in a cozy navy velvet, accompanied by lounge chairs with woven rope backs for the homeowner’s parents. A console table with bluestone top echoes the inviting coastal theme and serves as housing for two rope poufs that provide additional seating space for large gatherings. The family room’s original bar area was replaced with built-in cabinets and a streamlined marble fireplace custom designed for the space.

The existing kitchen felt confining and disconnected from the dining and living space. By redesigning the cabinetry to extend along an entire wall from the kitchen into the dining area we were able to marry the spaces together and create ample storage, along with a functional bar area, and a dedicated coffee hub to serve both areas. The awkward angled kitchen island was replaced with a traditional white oak rectangle island finished with the same quartz countertops used throughout the kitchen and dining space.

The lighting fixtures, cabinetry hardware, and accessories in similar shades of black were used throughout the entire first floor space to provide continuity. An existing architectural beam was given a hand-painted rustic finish to mimic the rustic wood finish of the kitchen island and staircase, further uniting the first floor spaces into one cohesive and inviting space.

The second floor master bedroom and bathroom featured a stunning view of the bay, but needed redesigning and updating to become the comfortable, relaxing sanctuary that the owner’s envisioned. We were able to transform the feel of the room by reimagining the existing wall closet space into a cozy sleeping nook housing a fully upholstered bed, flanked by a pair of coastal white nightstands. A custom closet structure was constructed on an adjacent wall, and the walls were finished in a custom wallcovering creating a relaxing peaceful space. A pair of chic swivel chairs with cast aluminum backs were added to take advantage of the stunning view and provide the room’s occupants with a perfect space to relax and take in the breathtaking vista outside the window.

The existing master bathroom was uninviting, with a dark cave like shower space. We were able to redesign the non-functional space into a bright, organized space by redesigning the vanity with improved lighting, and a pair of lighted mirrors. A chic geometric tile in a rich dark shade was added for a pop of contrast. A wall was removed to open up the existing shower space, and a new tile finish was applied to create a light-filled space with a simple, and clean aesthetic.

What the Client Had To Say:

We would rate Lisa (design) and her husband Rick (construction) 10 stars if we could! We bought our beach house a decade ago but put off major renovations in search of the right firm for our full house transformation. From our first meeting, Lisa and Rick exceeded our expectations with their vision, design genius, ingenuity, trusted professional partnerships, attention to the smallest detail, and genuine interest & excitement for our project. We now have a stunning home that totally reflects us and functions as well as it shines.
